It’s time to go the market and fill your shopping bag with the best products of the summer.
Fresh summer fruits are waiting for you, full of vitamins and antioxidants.
Strawberries contain some of the most essential nutrients your body needs. Vitamin C and flavonoids are the most important. We could also add vitamin K, folic acid, potassium, magnesium, or Omega 3 fatty acids here. From tasty beverages up to cakes, and even salads, these summer fruits are the coloured superstar of the month.
Just by looking at them, you realize that they are an excellent source of beta-carotene, an important antioxidant for your body. But the benefits of these summer fruits are much wider. Apricots contain potassium, vitamin C, fibre, and iron, and very few calories, at the same time. They can be eaten as a snack, or you can combine them with sheep cheese or Greek yogurt. Also, you can add them in recipes – apricots are very well combined with chicken or pork.
They are small, but their benefits are huge. Cranberries are very rich in polyphenols, antioxidants that prevent cardiovascular disease, cancer, and osteoporosis. Consume them in fruit salads, with oatmeal, or yogurt.
Cherries are recommended in kidney problems because their juice is a good diuretic. They contribute to a proper functioning of your liver, after a long illness, medications, or intoxications. In time, these summer fruits help the liver to revert to normal size, and strengthen the digestive system.
Cherries contain vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, B6 and C), phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron, and protein. The black cherries contain more iron and may take effect in preventing anaemia. They have a high content of phosphorus and are recommended to stressed and agitated persons. Since they have fewer calories, cherries are great for the weight loss diet.
Mango is wonderful in the summer. It’s not just great when included in seasonal salads, but it also contains an important package of nutrients. Mango fruits contain over 20 different vitamins and minerals, antioxidants and a mix of phytonutrients that prevent chronic diseases.
